Southern Baptist pastor, seminary professor, writer, and founder of the Southern Baptist Historical Society. Carver served as pastor to churches in Tennessee and Kentucky before his appointment to professor at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville in 1898. He taught at the seminary until his retirement in 1943. He was active in the formation of the Southern Baptist Historical Society and the Historical Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention.
